Outside The Walls
The Outside the Walls emphasis of Faith Baptist Church is about being obedient to the Great Commission. The Great Commission (Matthew 20:19-20) teaches that followers of Jesus Christ are to go and make disciples. The command is as believers go about their daily activities from one place to another the Gospel is to be shared by words and through action.
The first Outside the Walls event that involved members of the church was the first Block Party held in June 2017. An invitation to the community was extended through advertisement in the Wood County Monitor, flyers distributed to all students of Quitman Elementary, and by word of mouth to attend the Faith Baptist Outside the Walls End of School Block Party. The parking lot was transformed by members of Sunday School classes into a carnival atmosphere as they were games for children to play, prizes to be won, free hot dogs and drinks for attendees, Quitman Fire and Police vehicles on display, a petting zoo, plus other activities. Mid-way through the two-hour family event all activities were stopped to allow the Gospel to be presented. The Block Party is held the first Friday after Quitman ISD holds their graduation ceremony for seniors.
Members also go outside the walls of the church by participating in the annual Wood County Child Welfare/Protection Tips for Tots fundraiser. Many members take their faith into the schools by volunteering in QISD class rooms. Each year cookies are baked and distributed to various businesses in town as well as the sheriff, police, and fire departments which is our way as a church saying Faith Baptist appreciates what they do for our community. Before the QISD school year begins, Faith Baptist comes alongside other local churches to provide breakfast for all school district employees.
The Outside the Walls emphasis provides opportunities for every member to be involved in spreading the Gospel to our local community of Quitman and Wood County.
Caring Hands
The Caring Hands ministry is a ministry to minister to the senior citizens of our community who are homebound, living in nursing homes or assisted living facilities. The ones involved in this ministry provide meals when needed, help in buying groceries, transportation to doctor’s appointments and in other ways.
Stitchers
Members of the Stitchers will say to you, “with our faithful needles, yarn and fabric, we create ‘gifts of love’ to share with others locally and around the world, to demonstrate the love of Jesus Christ.” One of the items this group creates frequently is prayer blankets or shawls to distribute to those who are homebound, undergoing treatment for cancer, or recovering from surgery. The shawl or blanket that has been prepared is prayed over by the Stitchers before they present to the intended person. Stitchers meet the second Tuesday of each month at 1:00 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall.
Men Of Faith
Men of Faith is a ministry open to all men of the church. The group is willing to use their gifts and skills to help someone out in need. The men have helped elderly who need yard work done after a storm, taken someone to a doctor’s appointment out of town, or build a ramp to help someone get in and out of their home more easily. The Men of Faith hold a monthly breakfast on the second Saturday of each month in the Student Center at 8:00 a.m. The men are encouraged to invite and bring their unchurched friends to the breakfast.
Chair Yoga
Chair Yoga is held each Tuesday and Thursday at the church from 11:00 a.m. until 12:00 noon. Chair Yoga is an excellent way for older adults to loosen and stretch painful muscles, reduce stress, and improve circulation. It also reduces anxiety, helps lower blood pressure, protects joints, and builds strength and balance. Chair Yoga is open for the Quitman community to attend. Church members involved view this as an activity to invite someone outside the walls of the church to see the inside walls of the church in hopes of sparking an interest in knowing more about Jesus Christ and his offer of forgiveness of sin and enteral life to those who believe.
Church Library
Faith Baptist has a Christian library with over 400 books, both fiction and non-fiction, children’s books and DVD’s for all to enjoy. A book can be an “Outside the Walls” ministry that shares the Gospel as you say to a friend who is hurting, “I checked this book out of my church library because it deals with what you are experiencing. This may be a help to you so I brought it to you if you would like to read it.” The library is located just outside of the inside entrance to Fellowship Hall.
The next Outside the Walls ministry added to this page might be the one that our Lord has asked you to begin using your spiritual gift(s) or talent(s) to be led and used by Him to reach our community for Jesus Christ.
