What does this latest order from the Governor of Texas mean for Faith Baptist Church?

In an effort to stop the recent spikes of positive cases of the COVID-19 virus in the state and avoid another mandated stay at home order, Governor Greg Abbott has issued an order stating that Texans must wear face coverings in public, beginning Friday, July 3, at noon.

The order states that everyone over the age of 10 must wear a face covering when inside a business or a building that is open to the public. People also must wear masks in outdoor public spaces when they can’t keep six feet apart from others.

There are exceptions - Individuals do not have to wear a mask if they fall under any of the following:

  • have a medical condition or disability that prevents wearing a face covering
  • are eating or drinking, or seated at a restaurant to do those things
  • are exercising outdoors or engaging in physical activity outdoors
  • are maintaining a safe distance from other people not in the same household
  • are driving alone or with people who live in their household
  • are obtaining a service that requires temporary removal of a mask, such as security screening, visiting a bank, or receiving a personal care service that involves the face
  • are swimming in a pool, lake, or another body of water
  • are voting, assisting a voter, or serving as a poll watcher
  • are providing or obtaining access to religious worship; however, wearing a face covering is strongly encouraged
  • are giving a speech for a broadcast or to an audience

The order is statewide. It does not apply to people who are in counties with 20 or fewer active COVID-19 cases; local officials must apply for that status.

Wood County, as of August 12th has 350 confirmed cases of COVID 19 with 12 deaths and 119 active cases, 235 recoverd cases.

What does this latest order from the Governor of Texas mean for Faith Baptist Church as we gather for Sunday School and Worship this Sunday?

It means that you have the option to wear a mask or not wear a mask. I will be wearing a mask as I greet you before Sunday School, visit with you before the Worship Service, and as we exit. As we gather in Sunday School rooms or in the sanctuary, it will be your choice whether or not you wear a mask.  I will remove my mask once the worship service begins.

I highly recommend wearing a mask or facial covering, but it is your choice. I know multiple information has been released about wearing masks and their effectiveness.  I believe it is my responsibility, as your pastor, to make our facility as safe for everyone as possible. Therefore, I am choosing to be a part of the solution to stop the spread of this virus by choosing to wear a mask and strongly encouraging our membership to do so as well. Again, this is NOT a requirement to worship with us; it is simply a recommendation.

I am thankful that Governor Abbott is making the choice to follow the first amendment of the United States Constitution concerning the freedom of religion.

If you were unable to watch the live stream on Facebook, you can view Sunday's message from 8/09/2020, "The Future Can Be A Scary Thought," from John 14:19-24 by clicking this YouTube link  .

Blessed to Serve Jesus with You at Faith Baptist,

Bro. Mike
